One big thing that I don't understand is why people spend so much time being offended by what somebody says in the internet. It makes no sense to obsess over somebody or over a Facebook page and post a five paragraph long rant about how offended you are by them or what they said or their language or whatever. If you don't like somebody, don't talk to them. It's the internet. Bitching and throwing a tantrum isn't going to really affect them and you just look stupid and pathetic.
Ultra PC jerk offs bug the crap out of me more than just about anyone. I was actually told yesterday that talking about autistic children is disrespectful because the correct terminology is "children with autism". And I was told today that saying gay marriage is offensive and the correct term is "marriage equality". The Toys R Us ad for special needs kids this year, instead of saying for special needs kids, said "for children with special learning requirements." You can't say retarded, you can't say gay, you can't say stupid, you can't say this or that or blah blah blah or somebody will cry and cut themselves and explode. It's ridiculous. Every single day I hear a new word that you aren't supposed to say or OMG you're so rude and offensive! Why do you care so much? What does it matter what some random person on the internet that you will never meet thinks or says? Get over it, you bitching about how rude they are won't change anything, it's pointless and a total waste of time and energy. If somebody offends you or you don't like them, don't talk to them. If it's on Facebook, block them. Sounds logical, right?
Do you know what a troll is? A troll is somebody who purposely says rude and offensive things just to bother people. They think it is absolutely hilarious to see how big of a fit they can get people to throw, and they sit back and laugh about it. When there is no reaction, the trolls stop trolling. It's not fun when nobody is offended. If there is a page on Facebook called I love abortions or Dead babies taste delicious or Chester Child Molester it was made for a reaction, basically meaning when you post all over the wall how you're so offended and they're a horrible person who is going to rot in hell and threaten to kill them and call the FBI you're doing exactly what they wanted and they're sitting at their computer laughing hysterically. They don't actually love abortions or eat dead babies or molest children. They are doing it to piss people off and offend them. Don't give them a reaction, and they will stop.
Going out of your way to bash somebody or tell them how much they suck and how mean they are on the internet is the most colossal waste of time basically ever. There is about a 2% chance they actually care about you or your opinion. There are things you could spend your time and energy doing that would be far more productive. If someone online bothers you that much, get off the computer. Watch a movie, take a walk, play with your kid. Do your nails, eat a snack. Do something that makes you happy, chill out, and realize that they might be a jerk but their opinion doesn't matter because THEY don't matter. Be the bigger person and just don't say anything, ignore them. The internet is a place where anybody can say anything they want and not get punched in the face, and people love to take advantage of that.
lizz I love you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love you too!
DeleteWhere are the facts to back this up? You say there is a 2% chance that they actually care. Did you do this study yourself?
ReplyDeleteDid you do a study about why your face is stupid? Yeah. I thought not.

ReplyDeleteIf something upsets me "on the internet," it would upset me "in real life" as well...so if I choose to blog about how/why I'm upset, so what? I'm true to who I am and what I believe, no matter where I am, or who I'm talking to about it.
